Ever wondered how the First Nations made their own mocassins and clothes
from hide or perhaps you have just seen it done on TV? Well here is
your chance to learn how to do it properly from a true expert and walk
away with some buckskin you made yourself from fallow deer hide!
We are delighted to provide this special, two day course in making
buckskin the traditional way led by visiting instructor Kfir Mendel.
Kfir is the founder of Two Wolves.org
- a US school that specialises in the art of making buckskin. He
started studying primitive skills over 10 years ago, and looks forward
to every hide and every workshop. He's been tanning hides for over 6
years, and professionally for the last 4. The course will be held in
East Sussex.
During the course you will spend two full days, of hard, hands-on work
learning the basics of the Wet-scrape method of Brain Tanning, using
modern variations of techniques that are thousands of years old. The
process you will go through is simple, yet effective, for creating high
quality brain tanned buckskin. Students will work in teams to divide
the work load as well as learn from each other, and share their buckskin
at the end of the course. Primitive tools, as well as other variations
on the process will be discussed, and demonstrated as much as possible.
