Why Choose Us?

Value

We run our courses with minimal overheads so that you get a high quality course at an affordable price. We offer even further discounts for group bookings.

Experience

Our chief instructor is an experienced and accredited bushcraft instructor and a wildlife biologist, with a PhD and a BSc in Ecology. We have been running courses year-round since 2005.

Safety and security

Safety always comes first - we have risk assessments in place for all our activities, we are trained in safe practice for the skills we teach, we are HSE compliant, First Aid trained, and DBS cleared. Wildwood Bushcraft is fully insured.

Standards

We believe in using recognised standards of practice and teaching wherever possible. Our chief instructor and most of our associate practitioners have accredited instructors' qualifications. We use qualified instructors on our canoe expeditions. We are providers of accredited Navigation qualifications. Wildwood Bushcraft is a member of the Institute of Outdoor Learning and our chief instructor is recognised as an accredited bushcraft practitioner by the Institute for Outdoor Learning.

Ecological Approach

Our teaching is based on a firm ecological understanding and we operate using an environmentally responsible approach.

Locations

We use sites that have both the resources required to meet the course but also with a wild and scenic quality. In Scotland we have some truly stunning locations for our courses and expeditions, on the West Coast, in the Trossachs National Park, and on the River Spey.

In Sussex, our main forest site is in the High Weald, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, near Nutley, East Sussex. It is part of a large tract of forest adjoining Sheffield Forest and the Ashdown Forest and has a wide range of interesting wildlife. Our Lindfield site is also top quality Ancient Woodland with a good diversity of wild food, trees and wildlife. Both our Sussex sites are accessible by car from surrounding towns of Uckfield, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead. They are also only a short journey from London, the south coast and Gatwick Airport.

Courses for you

We run courses to suit a range of different ages, groups and abilities. For example, we are running courses for schools, families, corporate teams, outdoor education organisations and teenagers with difficult backgrounds. We offer a flexible approach and are always open to requests for customised courses with respect to content, dates and location. We are particularly good at drawing on a pool of business partners, locations and resources to build a course that is exactly right for you.

Customer service

It is of utmost importance that you have a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience. We always listen to our customers and where appropriate act on their feedback to continually improve courses.

Our teaching style is relaxed, down to earth and flexible, with an emphasis on the practical while enjoying the woodland experience. Undoubtedly there are some good military style survival schools but our chosen approach is more informal and person-centered.
