Bushcraft
Basic Skills Day
Duration: One day 09:00 - 17:00; the one day and night course
starts at 09.00 and ends at 09.00 the following morning after breakfast.
(For
the early birds there is also the opportunity for a nature walk on the
morning before you leave. )
Course content: firelighting, water preparation, shelter, plant
use
This
is a great introduction to bushcraft where you will fill the day learning
the fundamental bushcraft skills of firelighting (including fire by
friction and sparks), water collection and purification, tree uses and
shelter building. The emphasis is on guidance and you are always encouraged
to have a go and think things through for yourselves.

Learning outcomes: At the end of the course you should:
- know how to build a leaf shelter
- learn to identify some common trees and how they are used as bushcraft
resources
- understand how to find water and make it safe
- understand the basic principles of responsible firelighting and
fire wood selection
- knife safety and use
- have succeeded in lighting a fire with sparks and/or bow drill
