Family Bushcraft Day

Duration: 1 day: starting 09.00 and ending 17:00.

Course content: firelighting, water collection/preparation, shelter

This course is a great introduction day to bushcraft for families, particularly as a first step if you are not sure if you want to stay overnight. You will learn fun bushcraft skills together in a beautiful woodland environment. For example you will learn firelighting, including fire by friction and sparking and building your own fire; collect and purify water and build a shelter!

The course is designed around parents/guardians accompanying their children.

Learning outcomes: At the end of the course you should:

  • be able to tie some basic knots required to string up a tarp and hammock
  • learn some of the important bushcraft trees and their uses
  • know how to build a leaf shelter
  • understand how to find water and make it safe
  • understand the basic principles of responsible firelighting and fuel collection
  • have succeeded in lighting a fire with sparks and/or fire by friction
